Huawei Mate series is one of the best flagship smartphone series around. Every year mate series brings in exceptional innovations. But, Sadly mate 40 pro is not a huge upgrade. The reason could be the lack of Harmony OS. Rumors claimed Huawei will announce Harmony OS in its flagship series. As we now know Mate 40 Pro is not the Harmony OS<\/a> smartphone so, it is expected that P50 Pro will launch with harmony OS. And will also bring some innovations with it. Moving on to Mate 40 Pro review<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Design<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Huawei Mate 40 Pro design is not so different from P40 Pro. The back is somewhat similar to Mate 30 Pro with a round camera. The metal and glass design is a hybrid of P40 Pro and Mate 30 Pro. The Mystic silver color stands out among all options. It gives different colors depending upon the lighting conditions. The glass on the back is quite slippery and it would be intelligent to cover it up with a case. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 6.76-inch flex OLED 90Hz display is an incremental upgrade to the previous model. The curved display looks and feels sleek but glare could be a problem under direct sunlight. The panel suffers from brightness shift off-axis too. The display also has an in-display optical fingerprint scanner which is quite fast and responsive but not the best in the industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Performance <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Kirin 9000 is the latest chip from Huawei and it packs some serious power inside. It is the first 5nm chip with an integrated 5G Modem. It is 10% faster in CPU performance 52% faster GPU performance and 240% faster NPU. The Chip is light years ahead of SD865+ and currently is the best smartphone chip in the Android segment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, it offers double the 5G speed than SD865+. 8GB+ of RAM will be enough for heavy multitasking. 4400mAH battery with 65W fast charging is not bad. Wireless charging is also upgraded and now it supports 50W wireless charging<\/a>. On the Software side, it features EMUI 11 based on Android 10. The Software is outdated as Harmony OS is still a work in progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is confirmed that all the Huawei devices will be able to upgrade from Android to Harmony over OTA Updates. EMUI 11 is good in RAM management and has a powerful battery management system but not he most elegant android skin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Camera<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There is nothing extraordinary in the camera department but a needed upgrade over last year model. The main sensor is a 50MP RYYB sensor which is the largest camera sensor in any smartphone. RYYB in simple terms means a better low light performance. The sensor won’t disappoint and will stand out in the Android segment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The device also features a 12MP telephoto camera, and 20MP ultra-wide, 10X optical Periscope zoom lens that outputs 8MP photos. You also get a 13MP selfie shooter with a 3D camera for better face unlock. The device supports 720P slow-motion videos @7680fps. The Camera ranks #1 in the DXOMARK review<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verdict<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Huawei Mate 40 Pro stands out from the crowd in almost all the departments. It has cons as well but no major ones. However, if you can’t live without the google ecosystem<\/a> then this smartphone is not for you. This is a great device but it won’t sell in countries where google works as it doesn’t support google due to US Ban<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
