Social media giant Facebook\u2019s messaging arm WhatsApp is in controversy once again.Recently WhatsApp gave its users a very difficult choice: they could either accept the revised privacy policy that says that ‘users data will be shared with Facebook’. Under the new terms and conditions, WhatsApp would share transaction data, mobile device information, IP addresses, and other data on how users interact with businesses on WhatsApp and with Facebook group companies, including Instagram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In short, the firm will use your data collected from the app and other Facebook services for content suggestions, people recommendations, and ads along with service improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In terms of changes, WhatsApp\u2019s updated privacy policy and terms of service provide additional information on how the app collects and handles user data. There are new sections including Transactions and Payments Data as well as Location Information to provide details on precise data collection by the app. Every single company uses its user based data to make it’s product better. But here in case of Whatsapp, it’s here or nowhere. Company says if users fail to accept their new Privacy policy until February 8,2021 they will lose their Whatsapp account. Whatsapp was anyhow sharing the consumer’s data already with the Facebook Company, but it’s now crystal clear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs part of the Facebook Companies, WhatsApp receives information from, and shares information (see here) with, the other Facebook Companies,\u201d the updated privacy policy reads. \u201cWe may use the information we receive from them, and they may use the information we share with them, to help operate, provide, improve, understand, customize, support, and market our Services and their offerings, including the Facebook Company Products.\u201d reads the updated privacy policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When asked about the data being shared with Facebook company, WhatsApp’s spokesperson says, \u201c Our Privacy Policy and Terms Of Service update now includes offering Facebook as yet another option among the various Business Service Providers. When businesses choose to function through WhatsApp\u2019s Business Apps, they choose to route their various requirements to serve their customers through Business Service Providers,\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Facebook has already integrated Instagram and Messenger for cross-platform communication. And with this new change, it aims to provide \u201cintegrations which enable you to connect your WhatsApp experiences with other Facebook Company Products.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Anyway, Whatsapp is in controversies again this time. It’s a risk for the company to be in controversies again and again. Users are now abusing the company on twitter platforms and they think to change to an alternative of the Messaging app like Signal and Telegram which offer its consumers end-to-end encrypted chats.
