Google is in the process of making a smartwatch.
Yes, you read that right. It’s suspected to launch in 2022, according to a report by Insider. This isn’t Google’s first try at hardware. They have several smartphones under the Pixel line. Other accessories like wireless headphones are part of Google products too.
However, it’s not the first time rumors of Google smartwatch have begun. They’ve had so many of them, in fact, it’s laughable at this point. Google has tried to make an in-house smartwatch several times. (via AndroidAuthority)
Wearable platform for Android consists of Google since 2014. Let’s see what this in-house smartwatch might be:
What It Could Be
The smartwatch — “Rohan” — is being worked on by Google’s Pixel hardware group. It’s separate from Fitbit, which Google bought earlier this year.
There’s a 50/50 chance the watch will be called “Pixel Watch.” Nevertheless, the watch might be a testimony of Google’s capabilities. It will prove, once again, that with proper hardware, Google’s software will exceed expectations.
Google smartwatch is expected to cost more then Fitbit. It will also compete directly with Apple Watch.
It will include the basic fitness tracking features, with step counting and heart rate monitors.
Other Progresses
Google intends to show off the Wear OS with the smartwatch. It will essentially work like a Pixel phone. But, there’s a Wear OS-powered Fitbit on it’s way as well.
There seems to be a lot in the works for Google. The Wear OS Fitbit, a smartwatch, and they’re in the middle of reinvention of Wear OS 3.
Wear OS 3 developed as a partnership with Samsung, merging the platform into Google’s own.
So far, only Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 includes Wear OS 3, but it’s heavily customized. Since the smartwatch rumor has occurred so many times, there’s no way to say if it’ll be true.
