Check Battery Health on Windows Laptop

  • These are the two commands that you need to type in your Command Prompt
    • cd %HOMEPATH%/Desktop
    • powercfg /batteryreport

Apple users can check their battery health in just a few clicks. But since the beginning of time Windows is hiding battery health status on its machines. But it is not that difficult to view the battery health status of your laptop. By following the below steps you will be able to extract info about the cycles of your battery, and how it’s been used in the past three days. This information might help you in estimating when to go for battery replacement.

  • First, open the Command Prompt tool (Hit Windows Button + X and select Command Prompt (Admin)) on your Windows laptop.
  • Now type following command to go to Desktop
    • cd Desktop
    • cd %HOMEPATH%/Desktop
    • If You can’t get to Desktop, don’t worry skip this step.
  • Now Type this command to get your Report
    • powercfg /batteryreport
  • This command will generate a report and save it to Desktop if you are in Desktop directory. Else this command will create a battery report under C:\WINDOWS\system32\battery-report.html or, in Windows versions older than Windows 10, under C:\Users\[Username]
  • That’s it Now open the html file and you will be able to view your report.
