Xiaomi is one of the companies that played a big role in making smartphones more affordable and valuable. The Company started as a budget smartphone manufacturer but today it is building some of the best smartphones in the market. Mi 11 ultra is a flagship that aims to overthrew Samsung Galaxy 20 Ultra and the OnePlus 9 Pro by providing more value for a lesser price. Let’s find out how good of a flagship is Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra.
Design
Mi 11 ultra is a huge smartphone that weighs up to 234g. It will help you build muscles in your arms if you hold it long enough. 6.81inch AMOLED QHD 120HZ HDR10+ with 1700nits of max brightness adds to the huge and bulky build. The back has a ceramic feel to it which makes it outstanding in terms of looks. But the Icelandic camera module ruins everything. The camera module on this smartphone takes a huge chunk of space vertically and horizontally. And the worst part that it touches your fingers when you hold it. The edges are sharp and will make it more uncomfortable to hold this device.
The camera module holds that camera and a 1.1-inch secondary display for quick access to notifications, music, time. There is not much value to secondary display but it adds to the attention. The device features USB Type-c and a dual sim card slot. The Harman Kardon speakers are not only loud but also crisp clear and bass boosted. It also features an in-display fingerprint and IP68 rating.
Performance
Powered by a Snapdragon 888 processor and 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage the smartphone is ready for anything you can throw at it. Mi 11 Ultra prioritizes performance while gaming which adds to heat problems even the camera module gets heated after prolonged usage. 5000mah battery is enough to handle your workload for a day but with intense gaming, you might have to charge twice. 67W fast charging can boost your battery from 0 to 100% in 36 minutes.
Camera
The true power of this smartphone is not performance or looks but the camera. It is ranked #1 by DXOMARK for camera performance. The primary sensor is a 50MP lens with a 1/1.12-inch sensor size. The enormous sensor size allows the primary camera to shoot exceptional shots no matter the lighting conditions. It also gives a great DSLR feel by giving a bokeh effect without portrait mode. Then there is a 48MP ultra-wide shooter which can capture high-quality images even in low light.
The device gives you 5x telephoto zoom and 120x periscope zoom though the image colors show a small shift as you zoom in. The max zoom without losing picture quality is 10x while you can expect decent pictures up to 30x zoom after that is just doesn’t make sense. The camera can capture 8K videos and 4K @60fps. 8K means cinematic quality. The video quality is also great and the device is able to produce high-quality noiseless videos even in low light conditions.
Verdict
The device is priced around 1000$ the only drawback is its huge bulgy size. If you don’t mind the huge size then this is the best value for money flagship in the market right now. But should you need a mid-ranger with similar or better performance but a pretty low standard camera then take a look at Red Magic 6R
