Windows Update Error: 0x80070426

This error appears when corrupted system files cause problems during update.

We are not in the business of over-explaining things. Let’s just look at how this error can be solved.

Restart

The very first thing you should do when you get any sort of error in windows is to restart and try again. The restart solves almost every problem without getting into the dirty work.

Windows Update Troubleshooter

If restarting your PC doesn’t solve the issue you can try running windows update troubleshooter. You can easily navigate to Windows update troubleshooter by going to Settings -> Update & Security -> Troubleshoot -> Additional Troubleshooter -> Windows Update -> Run the Troubleshooter. This should solve the issue. If this also doesn’t work check the next step.

System File Checker

System File Checker helps you identify corrupted files. Right click on the Command Prompt and run it as an administrator. copy and paste the below command in command prompt

sfc /scannow

Once the process completes you can try updating windows again. If the problem persist try running below commands again in command prompt:

Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

This should solve the corrupt files problem.
