Intel RST (Rapid Storage Technology) is a new hard drive technology that gives your SATA, PCIe drives faster performance, low power consumption, and makes them more reliable. Intel also claims to improve data recovery in case of hard drive failure if RST is enabled. But not all operating systems can benefit from RST. One Such OS is ubuntu. If you have an RST enabled laptop and want to install Ubuntu on it you will have to disable RST first.
Now, how do you disable RST? It is actually pretty easy. Let’s take the example of Asus vivobook 14 which supports Intel RST and is enabled by default. Here are the steps:
- Turn off your laptop. Press and hold the F2 key and now turn it on by pressing the power key
- You will enter the BIOS configuration in no time.
- Navigate to Advanced -> SATA configuration using arrow keys
- Now here press enter and select any other option other than Intel RST
- Now press F10 and press enter to save the settings and boot with the new configuration
Once you have installed ubuntu on your machine. The important thing to note is that if you wanna run windows again you will have to enable RST following the same procedure and if you wanna run ubuntu you will have to disable it every time. Comment below if you have any questions.
