Apple Security Research Device Program: Rooted iPhones Delivered

Privacy & Security the two principles that keep Apple at the top. Apple is ready to take them to the next level with its new Apple Security Research Device Program. If you applied for this program earlier this year and got accepted then your rooted iPhone(Security Research Device) is already on its way to you. The Initial Application deadline has passed a new timeline will be announced soon.

Security Researchers can now easily found a vulnerability in the iOS core with these rooted iPhones without using third-party methods to access the iOS core. The Root is enabled by default and it will make it easier for researchers to explore and find all the vulnerabilities and security flaws in iOS. As with any other rooted smartphone, there is the risk of crashes and things going wrong. This is what Apple says about their SRD:

The Security Research Device (SRD) is intended for use in a controlled setting for security research only. Shell access is available, and you’ll be able to run any tools and choose your entitlements. Otherwise, the SRD behaves as closely to a standard iPhone as possible in order to be a representative research target. SRDs are provided on a 12-month renewable basis and remain the property of Apple.

If any vulnerability is found and reported by the researcher. The researcher will receive a reward based on Apple bounty Program. There are certain eligibility criteria to participate in the program check here.
