Google created a fuss over their new flagship phones a few months ago. (Read: Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.) With all the right reasons, of course. Their mid-range phones were so popular, in fact, the rumors of a new version have already surfaced. These are just leaked rumours, but it has many people excited already.
This new version is apparently named Google Pixel 6a. The new phone might be launched in early or mid-2022. It’s part of the Pixel-series Google has begun, and there are exactly two things to know. 9to5Google claims to know these first specs and have shared it.
Pixel-series phones have been hit-or-miss overall until recently. In 2019, Google released Pixel 3a which had their flagship camera. Later, Pixel 4a had the same camera, and Google Assistant’s accessibility increased. With each addition, Google has tried to better their products. It’s only Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro that have come anywhere near to being actually good.
The Good
Google didn’t hold back on their latest Pixel-series phones. With the mid-range phones, Google went above and beyond and created their own chipset. This chipset is said to have advanced capabilities, and many believe it lives up to the expectations.
The Google Tensor GS101 might be exactly in Pixel 6a. With such standards, it’s exciting to know that alleged Google Pixel 6a will contain the same one. The tensor chipset was the selling point of the new phones, and it will stay for the rumored one as well.
The Bad
Leaks on the chipset is exciting, but the later part might disappoint you.
According to 9to5Google, the sensors and the cameras in this phone aren’t great. For context, it’s apparently the camera setup they’ve used from Pixel 3a to 5a. (The phones with subpar performances in camera category.)
Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro had physically larger and better sensors. They had Samsung GN1. But the rumors claim it’s demoted to Sony IMX363.
Not only has this changed, but the camera megapixels have too.
The primary is supposedly 12.2MP, and the ultrawide is only 12MP. There are only two rear facing cameras. And the front facing camera is 8MP.
Needless to say, these are only rumors, and they should be treated as such. We don’t have anything solid on Google’s possible new mid-range phone. However, it will be fascinating to see what might be Google Pixel 6a’s selling point.
